FINALLY ….

after a year and a half of harassing the Board of Directors and the Educational Foundation for neglecting the $77,500 endowment to the ACBL/EF by Peter Pender who died in 1990, I finally received word from Jay Baum who was very helpful:

“Any vugraph will now be held in the Peter Pender Vugraph Theatre.  Also , there will be two mobile screens with appropriate bronze plates honoring Peter so vugraph can be mobile at the NABCs.Should be very attractive to those not wanting to sit in a room w/o food or beverage. I think it will be exciting for all.”

I will have to content myself and not vent my spleen questioning why money was spent on non-Peter Pender projects in 1904-05 about five years after the Pendergraph faded into oblivion..  At least Peter’s name will be back in the public eye as he intended after such a generous donation.  SO BE IT!

That’s what I like most about you … you never say die. I followed the story over the last year and there is no doubt the money receivers were in the wrong not following Mr. Pender’s wishes. At least, you were able to accomplish putting his name before the public once again.

Not what I had hoped for — but at least the name of Peter Pender and his generosity will not be forgottten.

Why did it take so long to resolve it?

Dunno! I can only guess.

HBJ : What do they say about perseverence ? Oh yes…..sometimes it pays.

Anyway, well done,,,,,,this represents another victory for the sling-shot Davids over the institutional goliaths. I applaud you.

Hi HBJ:

My daughter Robin early in my courtship with Bobby joshed with him of Norman’s famous admonition: “Don’t bet against Judy.” (If she’s correct, she won’t give up till she rights the ship, but if she is wrong, she is the first to back off and say she’s sorry!!!!!!). Well, I was right and I have no regrets regarding pursuing the Pender matter when there was not a soul (beside Bobby) in the world who gave a damn!

I am far from totally satisfied as there is a question of $10,000 removed from the account five years after the abandonment of The Pendergraph — but at least they made some effort to get Peter’s name before the public. Jay Baum’s proposal is a good one with the captioning of the Pendergraph Room and the moving screens. We’ll have to wait to see them in action before we make any judgments — but the idea is a good and creative one.

Time will tell.
