HAT’S OFF TO UNIT 373
At a recent Board Meeting, our Unit decided to listen to the voice of reason which resounded at the open membership meeting following the Unit Game on Sunday, November 4th. Those in attendance were vehement that the by-laws were antiquated or misinterpreted – thus reversing the Board’s earlier decision not to allow Bruce Rubin (whose wife Jane is 1/3 owner of The Las Vegas Bridge World) and Tom Grue (whose wife was a one-day-a-week director and who had sent in her resignation because her directorship impeded Tom’s questionable qualification to run for the Board) to now be on the slate for the upcoming election to fill vacancies on the BOD.
To the Board’s credit, they reversed themselves, and placed Bruce and Tom’s name on the ballot with no reservation.
Your constituents thank you.
My hat is off to you for going to that meeting and strongly backing the majority of the people there who vented their spleens. As they say, this is (or used to be) a “free country” and people (especially the majority of the group) should be heard. That meeting gave the membership at large (who cared enough) the opportunity to speak out loud and clear and met with success.
Congratulations to all of you!
It is a good example to set for Units and Districts all over ACBL land!
Thanks, Joan. It was good of you to follow this blog and take notice.

HBJ : When any cause is backed up by justice, equity and fairness…..not to mention great big dollops of common sense…… the dream of victory, more often than not, becomes a reality. With your voice and the support of others this victory was both swift and abrupt. No need for Ronnie and Reggie to come over then ?
Thanks, HBJ:
I know you try to get your message across on your terrific site (Howard Bigot-Johnson’s Bizarre World of Bridge) with your humorous exaggerations, but it is obvious for me to see that you are kidding on the level. Perhaps that is the only way you can get through to some of the dunderheads — but one concept I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt … no one cares more about the integrity, honor and morality of the game. You stand side by side with Bobby in his efforts to point the game and its players in the right direction.
Thanks for your strength and perseverance!
Cheers,
Judy
